Professional Training

The challenges faced in the primary level of prevention are mainly due to lack of professionals in the field. The primary health care system lacks professionally trained psychologists and the existing primary health care workers trained are inefficient in mental health services. When the competency of the mental health professionals is considered, they clearly lack the skills due to the lack of training in the areas. The academic curriculum in the country is not competent enough that they do not provide sufficient practical training to the budding professionals. Professional competency can be achieved only through the practical exposure and depth of knowledge in the field and training under the experts which will pave the stone of development and professionalism.  Psychology is one of the fields that can effectively deal with mental health problems through community intervention, primary prevention and systematic approach towards the promotion of mental health. The proficiency in counseling and psychotherapies must be achieved through training.

Students and professionals trained adequately can contribute significantly to the society provided that they are trained in the specialized areas. The importance of providing training for passed out students lies in the core idea that if they are trained effectively and efficiently in the field of psychology (counseling& psychotherapy), there will be professionally well equipped psychologists to serve in primary mental health promotion and problem prevention in areas like communities, educational systems, family, occupation, sports etc. The service of the trained psychologists can be used in a way that the service is available to all nonclinical populations of all sectors of the society.
